Is your skin looking rather droopy lately? Do you look older than you want to? A simple solution is to get a dermal filler, one that replaces the natural collagen you have lost with increasing age. Not only does the collagen create the appearance of volume increase; it may even contribute to new collagen formation, triggering your body to do its job. At SpaForever, we do more than spa services like massages and facials. We do cosmetic rejuvenation!
Radiesse is the only FDA-approved dermal filler for both face and hands. It consists of Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres delivered in a gel. Unlike other dermal fillers, this one can trigger neocollagenesis, or the production of new collagen. It is indicated for use on moderate to severe folds and wrinkles in the face, such as the nasolabial folds. It can also add volume to the backs of the hands, which can be an abnoxious indicator of one’s age.
It works to make up for the natural loss of collagen, which contributes to wrinkles, folds and fine lines. Radiesse Chicago replenishes lost volume upon injection. Both the gel and CaHA microspheres provide lift. Fortunately, the CaHA is made of minerals that are found naturally in your body, so they are biocompatible. Under the skin, Radiesse particles provide a scaffolding or structure for the continued formation of collagen, with the aid of your skin’s fibroblasts. Over time, your body will absorb the gel and metabolize the microspheres, a good thing. Meanwhile, collagen is left behind/intact. Radiesse is the only filler providing quick volume increase and stimulation for longer-lasting results. You can expect results for up to one year or more.
If you’re looking to get pregnant or are currently pregnant, Radiesse may not be safe. In addition, you must not have allergies to any ingredients inside Radiesse, including the anesthetic lidocaine which helps facilitate delivery. Do not use this injectable if you have a bleeding disorder. Severe allergic reactions may also rule out your eligibility for treatment with this collagen-based filler.
Side effects are generally mild to moderate, lasting a few days to a few weeks. The only severe, life-threatening response (besides an allergic reaction) would involve accidental injection into a blood vessel, which is something our injectors are trained to avoid. You also risk infection with any injection.
For the hands, you may experience one or more of the following temporary side effects: redness, bruising, pain, swelling, bumps, itching, loss of sensation and difficulty performing activities.*
For the face, you may experience one or more of these effects: redness, pain, swelling, itching and bruising.*
Call us immediately if you experience these side effects in areas other than the injection site, which may indicate the product has moved or a more severe reaction.
You should heal from any infection or inflammation prior to your Radiesse appointment, ideally before your consultation as well. Skin must be in healthy condition. In addition, you should modify your behaviors in the days to week leading up to your injection. That means you should abstain from alcohol consumption or the use of any blood thinners (fish oils, aspirin) for a specified amount of time.
Because Radiesse is a dermal filler, you won’t require downtime as with an invasive procedure such as plastic surgery. However, you should avoid strenuous exercise, extended sun exposure, massage on the treated area and makeup for at least 24 hours after treatment.
While some people notice almost instant improvement in the appearance of their hands or face following Radiesse Chicago, it’s more likely you won’t notice the effects for some time. During the time immediately following injection, you may experience a herpes outbreak (if you have a history of herpes). You may also notice all the aforementioned side effects. Be patient, and await your results!
According to Merz Aesthetics (the manufacturers of Radiesse), 90% of patients experience comfort when Radiesse is injected with lidocaine. Our patients similarly comment that Radiesse injections are fairly painless, attributing the effect to the lidocaine present in the delivery. Plus, your injector will deliver Radiesse using a small, thin needle. Technique matters too; we don’t make unnecessary moves with the needle, prodding the tissue for no apparent reason. We let the lidocaine take effect and finish injection on short notice, being precise, methodical and patient yet considerate of your time. After all, this is a popular lunchtime procedure!
You may be wondering how Radiesse measures up to the other popular dermal fillers out there. Juvederm (which we also offer!) is an alternative to Radiesse. It’s important to note your choice of filler comes down to personal preference. With that being said, Radiesse’s long-lasting action earned it higher patient satisfaction scores in a few studies as compared to Restylane, Juvederm and Perlane.
